Clinical G to N Neuro Surgery
The Department of Neurosurgery started functioning in April, 1956. It is the first surgical superspeciality Department of the Andhra Medical College with a strength of 35 beds and is also the first neurosurgical unit of Andhra Pradesh. Dr S. Balaparameswara Rao officiated as its first professor and Head of the Department.
In 1991, an exclusive 'Head Injury and Intensive Care' wing was added with the help of Visakhapatnam Port Trust. A 3-years course in M.Ch. course was started in 1986 and more than 11 candidates have successfully completed their degree. The twin Operation Theatres at the Neurosurgery Department are well equipped with a high resolution operating microscope and other surgical gadgets.
PUBLICATIONS: More than 100 papers have been published from the Department of Neurosurgery in various National and International journals. A number of papers were also being presented at the National and State conferences.
LIBRARY: The Department of Neurosurgery has a large and well-stocked library to boast as its own.
