D. V. L. (Department of Dermato Venereo Leprology)

With the inception of the Andhra Medical College in the year 1923, Departments of Dermatology and Venereology came into existence as combined departments. In 1956, the Department of Venereology gained its exclusive existence. Dr Govindan Nair was the first Head Of the Department (HOD). Initially, only a Diploma in Venereology (DV) including Dermatology was available. From 1978 onwards, MD (Venereology) was started. The Department is actively involved in conducting free clinical checks at various places in the city along with the Department of Social Work, Andhra University and is actively educating the public about sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS.
