The Department
of Pathology was started during the year 1923
with Dr T.S. Tirumurti as its first professor.
It was after a period of 30 years that the facilities
at the department were upgraded. In the year
1946, post graduate courses were started. The
department trains students pursuing MBBS, MD
& DCP, post graduation in other subjects
from other departments and laboratories. Technicians,
attendants and B.Sc. Nursing students are also
being trained here at the Department of Pathology.
The department is conducting various research
projects from prestigious institutions such
as ICMR & SMR and the students of this department
have published several papers. The FNAC Cytology
wing was started in June 1996. The department
boasts of a fairly large museum with several
rare specimens.

Bhaskara Menon Memorial prize is awarded
by way of selection based on a competitive
exam.

Tatachari medal in Pathology is awarded
to students who secure the highest marks
in the University examination.
