The Department of Paediatric
Surgery at the Andhra Medical College was started
in the year 1961 with Dr S. Srinivasulu Reddy,
MS, FRCS, as the first professor along with
another Assistant professor. The Department
had a sanctioned bed strength of 25 then. A
second post of Assistant Professor was later
added in the year 1983.
Super-speciality course in Paediatric Surgery
(M.Ch.) was started in the year 1978. The Department
of Paediatric Surgery also offers training to
undergraduate (MBBS) and post graduate students
in General Surgery (MS). The Department runs
Out Patient clinic on three days a week and
selective operations are performed twice a week.
Surgical emergencies are attended to round-the-clock,
all through the year. The Out Patient clinic
caters to the needs of over 150 new patients
and an equal number of out patients every week.
On an average, 75 patients are admitted every
month. About 700 surgical operations are performed
every year.
PUBLICATIONS:
The Department of Paediatric Surgery has several
scientific papers published in the Indian and
International Paediatric Surgery journals, to
it credit. The Department also
has a well-stocked library.
