earlier days, Orthopaedic surgery was carried
out by general surgeons as part of general surgery.
It was only in the year 1964 that a separate
Department for Orthopaedic Surgery was set up
at the Andhra Medical College. Late Dr. M.G.
Kini and Major J.F. Shepherd laid the foundation
stone of this Department. Dr C. Vyagreswarudu
officiated as the Head of Department from 1960
onwards. He had done pioneering work in orthopaedics
and is remembered for his services for the benefit
of the Department. During 1971, a second unit
was formed and in 1987, a third unit, keeping
the increasing demands for orthopaedic services
in and around Visakhapatnam, in mind. During
the year 1983, an 'Artificial Limb Center' was
set up with the help of ALIM Company.
LIBRARY: An exclusive library
with journals and text books attached to the
Department of Orthopaedics is used extensively
by the students and teachers of orthopaedics.
PUBLICATIONS:
The Department boasts of many papers presented
and published in journals on Orthopaedics and
conferences.
