The Department
of Neurology was established in the year 1977,
with 24 beds and posts of one Professor and
an Assistant Professor. Dr V. Satyanarayana,
M.D., D.M., officiated as the first Professor
and Head of the Department.
The
Department runs an Out Patient clinic on three
days, a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday)
and an Epilepsy Out Patient Clinic on the first
Saturdays of the month. The Out Patient clinic
caters to more then 120 new patients every week
in addition to an equal number of existing
patients who come for regular check ups. An
average of 25 to 30 patients are also being
admitted every month upon check up for medical
care at the King George Hospital.
The
Department is equipped with a 16 channel EEG
Machine with Photic stimulator and an E.M.G.
and N.C.V. machine to conduct neuro electro
physiological studies.
The
Department of Neurology offers training to undergraduate
and postgraduate students in Medicine, Paediatrics',
STD, Ophthalmology and Psychiatry. An additional
Electromyography unit with hi-tech equipment
and a D.M. Course in Neurology are also being
offered.
The
Department of Neurology has been conducting
CME (Continued Medical Education) programmes
regularly once in every two years starting from
the year 1978. Registry of Epilepsy and Pregnancy,
Visakhapatnam Chapter has been functional at
this Department, this facility of registration
is second only in the country and is affiliated
to the European Registry of Pregnancy and Epilepsy.
At
the Department of Neurology, a lecture session
themed 'Endowment lecture in Neurosciences'
is being conducted every year since the year
1998.
PRIZE
: Dr Sajja Chandramouli Prize in Neurology
is being awarded by way of a competitive examination
at the Department. |
