Under the revised regulations
laid down by the Medical Council of India (MCI), which
have been adopted by the NTR University of Health
Sciences, the MBBS Course is for a duration of four
and a half academic years with one year of compulsory
rotating internship. The MBBS course is divided into
nine semesters, each semester spans over a period
of six months. It is mandatory for the students pursuing
MBBS to pass Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry
in order to enter the second academic year of MBBS.
Attendance: Attendance
in the classrooms is an important factor and a student
who is absent continuously for 91 days or more will
have to get the permission of the UHS to continue
the course. A total of 80% attendance is required
in non-lecture classes i.e. practical sessions, demonstrations,
ward postings, tutorials, seminars etc. Overall attendance
of the student must be at least 75 % to be eligible
to take examinations.
Internal Assessment:
Students pursuing MBBS are assessed internally
to motivate and make them aware of their position
in academics. For the same, periodic examinations
are being conducted with a minimum of four exams for
Pre and Paraclinical and three exams for Clinical
subjects inclusive of SPM is being held. Assessment
is totaled taking the average of the best three examinations.
While absence during the examination will fetch nil
marks, failed students can appear for a re-exam and
the better of the two written exams (first attempt
and second attempt) can be considered during internal
assessment. Internal assessment marks are 40 for each
preclinical subject and SPM, 30 marks for Microbiology,
Pathology, Pharmacy and 20 marks for FM, ENT, Ophthalomology
and Paediatrics, 40 marks for Obstetrics and Gynaecology
and a total of 60 marks for Medicine and Surgery.
Compulsory Rotating
Internship: As per the laid down regulations of
the Medical Council of India (MCI), every MBBS student
is required to undergo a rotating internship for a
period of one year including two months each in Medicine,
Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology (including
procedures of family planning); three months in SPM,
two months equally divided for Paediatrics, Ophthalmology,
ENT and Casuality, one month for Elective Postings
(divided equally between Skin and STD or Psychiatry
or TBH or Anesthesia, Radiology or Blood Bank or Forensic
and Toxicology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Of this one year, a duration of six months will be
spent in Teaching Hospital/ District hospital, three
months in Taluk Hospital or smaller District hospitals
or in a Public Health Centre (PHC).
Results: <>Students after taking the exams are awarded
with marks. A 'First Class' with Distinction is awarded
to students who secure at least 75% aggregate in all
the qualifying subjects and passes them in the first
attempt itself. First Class is awarded to students
getting 65% and more. Pass in Second Class is awarded
to those who get 50% aggregate with minimum 50% in
Theory and Orals and minimum of 50% marks in Practicals/Clinics.
If the student secures lesser percentage in the examinations
will be considered as 'Failed'.>
Award of Degree: The degree of MBBS shall be
awarded by the University only on satisfactory completion
of the internship by the student.
Vacations: The Heads of the Institution declare
a month-long vacation in each academic year for the
students. The period of vacations can be decided by
the Head of the institution.
