Forensic Medicine

During the formative years of the Andhra Medical College, the Department of Forensic Medicine functioned under the purview of the Department of Pathology, whose faculty used to perform autopsies as well. A few years later, exclusivity to the Department of Forensic Medicine was given only in the year 1940. Dr Valith was the first full-fledged professor of Forensic Medicine in 1943. Today, the Department trains undergraduate and postgraduate students and also imparts training to police officers and medical officers. It conducts medico legal autopsies and maintains a museum of its own along with a select collection of books on Forensic Medicine in the library. Mortuary at the Department of Forensic Medicine has recently been renovated.

PRIZE: Madhava Rao memorial prize examination is being held annually for the students pursuing the subject of Forensic Medicine.
